Flower Card Using a New Technique!!

5th October 2013

A very happy Saturday to you all!

Last night I looked through my collection of Stitch and Workbox magazines for inspiration and new ideas.
When I first bought the magazine a few months ago I thought 'no way will I be able to do that', but last night I thought 'I think I can do this'.  PROGRESS!!

Flower petal shapes were stitched onto a single layer of organza which was secured with a hoop.

I found some organza in my fabric stash, secured it in my hoop, free machined using my favourite purple variegated thread and it worked!!

I cut round the shape with my soldering iron and had 3 lovely, delicate petals.

I had some printed calico in my stash (I have a big stash!) and backed this with fine wadding and stitched lines for background texture, then secured the petals with a circular stitch so that the petals sit out ...

..this was placed in a square aperture card.

I am really excited about the possibilities of this technique using a variety of shapes and colours.
I am going to put this card in my Etsy Shop.

I don't know whether I have ever mentioned that I also have a yarn stash and had a look through it last night. I couldn't believe it when I found a baby blanket completed apart from sewing in the ends (my least favourite task!) How could I possibly forget I had made this blanket!! It must have been this time last year before I had even considered an embroidery course!!

Not a very good photo!

I make up my own patterns for blankets using ideas from my stitch book and always choose a good quality yarn. This was made using bamboo/cotton and is really soft to the touch, perfect for babies.

I also came across some Debbie Bliss yarn in a very pale aqua and started a basket weave blanket.

Must do some housework now and make more organza flower petals!!!
