A Happy Day

26th February 2015

Up early, the rain and wind woke me!!

Pilates, worked really hard for an hour, hung the washing out as the sun came out, went for a walk with Jack and RD, sky darkened, hail stung our faces, sun came out and we walked along the prom......

....wonderful white breakers.....

.....looking north, the Big Wheel on Central Pier and the Tower....

.....walking south,

....I love this installation, when the tide is coming it it makes a haunting sound.....

...the Blackpool High Tide Organ...

.....sorry, not a good photo....

....wonderful shapes on the prom with the glitter ball framed, on the right!

:::::

Yesterday I made a sea horse template (followed a You Tube demo for children!)

I traced onto white cotton velvet....

.....and stitching the lines ready for indigo dyeing on my course in March...

.....also prepared some other fabrics.

:::::

Used a painted piece of thick paper, added tissue, skeleton leaves...

.....my hand-made roller with the string coated in metallic gold...

....then a touch of bubble wrap...

.....now drying after a coat of acrylic wax, think I will make a note book cover!

Painted some rag paper then added rock salt while still wet....

.....love the subtle effect....

.....these will be background papers for collage and stitch, I think!!!

::::::

The window box outside my kitchen, makes me smile every morning....

.....my snowdrops from Lytham Hall are doing well in a front raised bed....

....hope they will bloom next year!

Printing

25th February 2015

Started my creative day by cutting out shapes from a cloth I bought from a charity shop using my soldering iron......

......sorted oddments of lace....

....tried 2 of my new colours...

.....ooops, forgot to take photos!

I placed the lace and some small fluffy feathers on the Gelli plate and printed on silver tissue....

....not very successful...

....a better result with a thicker piece of lace.....

.....placed my embroidered flower on the Gelli then added white/berry with a brush....

...didn't like the result so found a wooden block and over printed!

Love these colours...

....used a cardboard comb instead of a roller to blend...

....quite like this....

....roller spread the remaining paint and pressed on bubble wrap....

....over printed which has taken away the white of the paper....

.....printed a base of mixed greens, placed on leaves embroidery and added some metallic paint...

....pressed the green over, removed the lace....

...took another print....

....rather like this one!

Also started another little project ready for my Cornwall course but will share this tomorrow.....

Cards from my Printed Papers

23rd February 2015

After a busy morning and then food shopping I managed to find a couple of hours this afternoon to make some of my prints into cards and note cards......

......3 pack of note cards....

.....lino print...

.....wooden block print on Gelli printed background.....

.....real feather print....

....a pressed leaf used for printing, coated in acrylic wax on my own hand made paper....

.....again this leaf has been pressed, used for printing and stitched with variegated silk thread and mounted on a printed background.

I am quite pleased with these......

....wonder what I will do tomorrow....

Ideas from the Course

22nd February 2015

I forgot to mention some ideas from yesterday....

.....polyprint, marked out on a piece of polystyrene (base from a pizza)....

.....crepe paper roll painted and printed 'as you work'....

.....found my angelina fibres....

.....small amount ironed between baking paper.....

.....angelina and silk fibres...

.....so delicate....

....the longer you heat the fibres the less the sparkle....

....bleach marks on silk paper....

.....bleach on tissue....

.....tea bag cut to pour out the tea....

....dried leaves/flower placed on bleached tissue and inserted into the bag....

....bag has been coated with acrylic wax (easier than melted candle wax)....

....sponge printed around the edge using a circular mask...

.....this would have been easier with a square tea bag!

The back of the business card with details, Emma's work is so beautiful and delicate...

.....I couldn't resist buying this lovely porcelain hanging.....

.....the colours and design are really beautiful and so delicate....

.....my photos do not do her work justice!!!

It has been such a very grey, rainy day today the light was not good for photos, my apologies!

I think Emma's site will show her skills, well worth a look....
