Blackberry Picking.....

30th August 2015

Cloudy but pleasant here today so decided to go blackberry picking on our walk around the Devere Golf Course....
...RD with his tub in the middle of the brambles!!!

The biggest, juiciest were out of reach, need a pole with a hook to pull them down!

The rest of the walk was great, so many berries on the bushes and trees.....

....there were so many thistles, so pretty....

....I managed to capture the heron on the lake, standing so still, used my zoom....

...Jack decided to venture in....

.....our spoils...

.....and my twig and seed heads...

....RD is now making blackberry jam!!!

He has never made jam before but I found a very simple recipe on line!

Fingers crossed....

Yesterday we had a little sand castle competition in the park to celebrate the new boat and 10 tons of sand delivered by the council on Thursday and shifted by Gary, chairman of the friends group.....

....the sun came out and a good time was had by all, including parents!!

Must sterilise the jam jars, verdict tomorrow....

Physical Activity and a little Creativity......

28th August 2015

Started the day litter picking and deadheading in the park.

Then went for a bike ride along the promenade, fabulous when the strong wind was behind me, hard work on the way back!! Still enjoyed the exercise.

I have not been able to create this week so today looked at my Pinterest pins for some inspiration.....

.......saw this idea for Christmas!!!! I can hear you groan!

This was a small piece of sari silk fabric I made ages ago. I have prepared two tree decorations using a cinnamon stick for the trunk and star anise for the star at the top, what do you think?

The remaining fabric is going to be a needle case and pin cushion as a gift.

Prepared a card using a variety of papers, will stitch tomorrow.

Made these strips to show the yarn-bombing group when we resume in September, these can be wrapped around tree trunks.

Prepared this felt using my embellisher for autumn leaves on a weaving I did ages ago!!!

Lots to do for the rest of the weekend, hope you all have a good one!

....love the colours in the dunes, taken on zoom...

.......this is a garden on my walk to the prom, fabulous thistles about 7ft high...

.....screams as the carriages on the Big One descend....

....shape/texture on the sea defences...

....walked back through a park....

.....twittering sparrows! Practising with my zoom!

Washing has dried, a project has been completed and dinner is in the oven, now for a glass of red.....

A Visit to St Annes.....

26th August 2015

The weather has been very fickle today.....

7am- pouring down, 10am- sunshine so we decided to walk along the promenade in St Annes, about 3 miles from us.....

....love waterfalls.....

....ducks must have thought we had food....

......beautiful clouds and sky....

.....beach huts on the front, look so cosy inside....

....St Anne's Pier....

.....a pool where people were crabbing.....

.....brought back the memory of sitting on a bucket for HOURS while my son was crabbing!

The entrance to the pier, very busy today, a lovely building....

....so many memories were evoked today from when we used to visit when the children were small, pitch and put, play area, trampolines and miniature railway.....

....then the battery went on my camera, so no more photos!

We walked through the sand dunes, great Ashton Park and Gardens and sat down for a coffee, that is when the rain started!!!!

Arrived home and the washing was dry so no rain here in Blackpool, we went for a bike ride in waterproofs and the sun was glorious!!!

Have also been creative but can't share yet.....

.....lots of people paddling as the tide comes in.....

.....patterns made by the blowing sand...

.....arrived home and started to make a case for my new camera.....

.....decided to join two pieces of felt I had made ages ago with my embellisher....

.....cut out the felt....

.....then had to decide which side to use, decisions, decisions....

.....I have a huge box of buttons but couldn't find a suitable one!!

Made a Dorset Button.

An Interesting and Unusual Day....

21st August 2015

My day began with a trip to the surgery for my vaccinations for my trip to Vietnam in October......

.....then went to the park, with my new camera, for some deadheading/weeding.....

...lots of deadheading needed on this 'curry plant'....

.....an enjoyable break for a cuppa and natter.....

.....not a lot of progress in 1 hour!!

Sunflowers planted by the children in the Friday group at our community centre...

.....this should be flowering next week, love sunflowers!

Proof that weeds will grow anywhere!!

This dandelion is growing in the bowling shelter through 'plastic grass'!!!

This afternoon I spent a couple of hours with a local 'dementia' group to find out the foods they enjoyed when younger as part of the Embroiderer's Guild project, old tablecloths and napkins are to be embroidered with words / food in a joint project with the groups helping people with dementia, funded by the Arts Council.

I played 'Higher/Lower' and Bingo with the group and favourite foods included roast beef dinner, potato pie and Dandelion and Burdock delivered in stone jars!!

The dementia sufferers were accompanied by wife/ husband/son/daughter and the patience and love was INCREDIBLE and I felt privileged to be in that group for 2 hours.

Think this camera is great but need to practice more!!
