A Card, Washing and Gelli Printing

31st January 2015

Where did January go?

Started the day washing some of the yarn bombing that we removed from the park yesterday....

....all clean and dry and packed away for next time!!

:::::

I was asked to make an anniversary card, the lady wanted a red heart and a key, I always worry when asked to make a card that my interpretation will not be acceptable....

....I decided to use machine embroidery on soluble fabric using gold metallic thread for the key....

.....and felted some Merino Fleece to make a large and smaller heart, then hand stitched using metallic gold and red thread, mounted on a dull gold card, and the lady loved it....phew!

::::::

This afternoon played with my Gelli...

...printed with my wooden block...

...onto a print I did a few weeks ago...

...blobbed...

....combed...

...printed tags...

....love the colours and textures, not sure what I will do with them yet!!!

::::

Popped into my local charity shop and found these treasures, all for £1.75...

....enjoy the rest of the weekend.....

Happy Friday

30th January 2015

I have had a great day.....

.....started by taking the yarn bombing down in the park....

...with lots of help from other volunteers....

....spotted the first flowering daffodils!

:::::::

As I was in my warm clothing  went for a lovely beach walk, the gales had caused the beach to change, wonderful shapes in the sand around the pools....

.....birds feeding....

....love these colours....

.....so many starfish and shells after the storms....

....my shadow and a piece of driftwood....

.....another very large piece of driftwood, too big for RD to carry home!!

As we walked back along the prom, against the wind, a flock of starlings rose up from the grass verge  and settled on the team lines until we passed!

:::::

Came home and had a play.....

......I used some felt I had made ages ago, cut out a shape and backed this with beautiful velvet.....

....hand couched around the edge of the shape with yarns....
....want to do hand stitching next....

....I then stitched the shape I had cut out and stitched onto another piece of felt....

...watch this space!

Hope you all have a great weekend......

Blustery Blackpool and Sorting Fabrics

28th January 2015

Had an exhilarating walk along the promenade today!!

We were the only people being literally blown along, I was even having to run when the gusts became really strong, quite exciting......

....I was mesmerised by the patterns the wind was making on the water as it moved up the beach....

....so beautiful...

....resembles lace....

....those dark clouds produced hail before we arrived home!

:::::

Decided to have a big tidy/sort of my fabrics....

...before....

....after...

....before...

...after....

...still have some more to do but at least I can now see what I have.

::::::

Also made a couple of cards....

.....must make the meal now.....

Feeling Really 'Chuffed' !!

27th January 2015

The reason for my pleasure is that two people contacted me to buy some of my 'keepsake' cards, I sold 10 today and am totally delighted!!

The last couple of days I have made more cards while listening to story tapes....

.....this was made using beautiful embroidered ribbon to which I have added seed beads .....

.....I printed this on fabric then machine stitched with variegated threads and added beads....

....machine embroidery on slub silk....

.....hand embroidered daisies.

A GOOD DAY!

Ideas in the Middle of the Night!!

25th January 2015

Last night I woke with a start at 3am with ideas for some birthday cards I need to make, then took ages to go back to sleep!!!

Tonight I will have a book and pencil beside my bed so that I can jot down any ideas I have in the early hours!

I finished the card I started yesterday...

...I do like the effect of hand stitching.

::::

This is a card for my youngest son, can you guess how old he will be?

I used textured hand made paper to clean my Gelli plate roller as a background...

....printed in black....

....then over printed in sea blue...

...shadow effect, quite like it, hope he does!

::::

A friend asked me to make a card for her granddaughter who likes pink...

....I layered my hand dyed silk onto dyed linen then attached to white linen, cut out the letter I...

....and machine embroidered, added seed beads....

....I am also going to add a detachable tag....

....to be finished tomorrow!

Bargains!!

24th January 2015

Went to Lytham today to see if I could find any linens at the Antiques Fair.....

....the ones I saw were too expensive but I did find some lovely Mother of Pearl buttons and a bradawl for just £6.50!

On the way home I popped into my local Age Concern charity shop....

.....three pieces of old hand stitched cotton, think they were nightdress cases....

.....and this lovely table cloth for only £5.

Not sure what I am going to do with it yet but hate to think it might be just scrapped!

Arrived home to find...

....some lovely ideas in it.

Went up to my loft space and started a mixed media card....

...before stitching.....

...after machine stitching....

.....will do hand stitching, beads and buttons tomorrow!
