Shibori Preparation...

27th February 2017

My new camera has arrived!

I will be on my course in Cornwall next week where we will be indigo dyeing so thought I would prepare something on the beach theme....

....I made simple templates then traced around them using a water soluble pen....

....using overstitch for the main outline and running stitches for shell markings then pulled the threads tight....

....I have used old napkins from my stash...

....did this one but with all running stitches...

.....pulled threads....

.....I will be very interested to see the result!

OH DEAR....

23rd February 2017

My camera has died!!

I thought about seeing about a repair but have decided against it, I may as well put that money towards a new camera with a 5yr warranty. Perfect timing as I am on my course in Cornwall the first week in March so will definitely need a camera for that.

This is the last photo I took, a cardigan for Alba, you can tell the focus is off!!!

I have used Malabar yarn cotton/silk mix, so soft with a good range of colours.

My youngest son actually wore the socks I made for him, his verdict without any prompt from me was 'extremely comfortable', this was accompanied by a look of amazement!!!

>>>>>>>>>>

Storm Doris hit us last night, extremely wet and windy and has continued today.

Hope it is better tomorrow as we are supposed to be taking down the yarn bombing in the park.

Hopefully more photos next time I post....

An Enjoyable Week....

18th February 2017

A mixture of weather here in Blackpool this week, grey days and cold, windy, sunny days. I prefer the latter!
I had a lovely long promenade walk earlier in the week, there was a cold easterly wind so the sea was really calm and the seagulls were enjoying floating on the water! An unusual sight here in Blackpool.

I love this feature on the promenade, when the tide is in there is a haunting sound emitted, love it!

This structure shows layers of erosion...

....wonderful texture and colour.

I finished socks for my youngest son...

....have started a crochet blanket for a baby due in the summer, I have used 'corner to corner' pattern found on You Tube....

....started a 'ballet cardigan' for my granddaughter....

....met up with a crafting friend for a good chat and also with the 'yarn bomb girls' for coffee, natter and a laugh. We are already making plans for next year and will be taking the yarn bombing down on Friday. We had a feature with photos in the local paper and many positive comments.
 A good result.

Also read a couple of good books and two more to read this week that I ordered from the library.

Hope you all have a good week......

A Brilliant Week.....

9th February 2017

The last week has been so good spending time with my family. I met my great nephew for the first time, so beautiful, went to Kew with my eldest son and spent lots of time with my gorgeous granddaughter, she is such fun to be around and definitely 'on the move'.

While I was having a sort out of my work space in January I came across a JL bag with a half finished  baby cardigan!! It was from so long ago the baby it was meant for is now 8 years old!! I brought it to London with me and finished it for Alba......

...a pretty pattern but really needed to concentrate on the border, undid it at least 3 times!

Apologies for the photo looking blurry, must have had the camera on the wrong setting.

My daughter asked if I could make Alba some simple summer dresses, of course I said yes and went to JL at Kingston to look for a pattern and fabric.

It is so long since I made clothes, apart from doll/rabbit outfits I am quite looking forward to it!

Amazing the effects a granddaughter has.

I also have been trying to do 10,000 steps a day and have easily achieved this walking Alba around the park.

Off to see Strictly at Wembley tonight then back to Blackpool tomorrow!

Orchids at Kew...

5th February 2017

Yesterday went to see the Orchid Display at Kew with my eldest son, such a treat....

....a beautiful orchid/moss peacock...

.....the displays had these brilliant information boards....

....many orchids were suspended from the roof ...

....loved this spotted orchid...

.....this was so unusual and the leaves so pretty....

.....another 'air' orchid...

.....might try and use this for a fabric/embroidered leaf...

....this greeted us as we went through a door...

.....back outside, so many clumps of snowdrops...

...I always enjoy a trip to Kew!
