The end of the Cornwall Creative Fortnight....

18th March 2018

Arrived back in Richmond on Friday. chilled on Saturday with embroidery and catching up on I-player programmes......

....the last day was spent making notes and samples for my sketchbook....

....cut out these shapes from Funky Foam....

....printed on tea dyed Abaca, but think the foam is too flimsy so will have another go with eraser/lino as I love the simple shapes....

....cut out shapes in organza, two layers....

....stitched on the machine but forgot to take a photo.....

....a friend let me use her silk dyes and had a play making backgrounds for stitching on silk...

.....also machine stitched on my printed samples from earlier in the week...

....think these prints might look good on a thicker fabric maybe for a cushion, mug mats, table mats...

....card topper...

....layering a variety of rectangular fabric scraps, need to machine down as I go along, WIP....

....made this very simple embroidery on a linen scrim but really need a finer weave fabric.

OOPS, I forgot to take photos of the work this last week except for Claire's amazing wall hanging, nearly completed, all stitch and cut out work. This photo does not do it justice as the colours are so much more vibrant.

Just had a day with Alba who can't quite say grandma, so calls me baba!!!

Enjoy your week....

My Finished Project....

14th March 2018

Apologies for the photos, a very poor light here today.

What a change in the weather from yesterday, high winds and rain so no walk to the beach today!!

My project for the Architecture course was to embroider a house, I completed it this morning and have really enjoyed the process.....

I used organza for the windows . Stitches used were back stitch, stem stitch and seed stitch on layered fabrics and lace for the hedge.

>>>>>>

I used some tea dyed Abaca tissue for the petals of this flower and stitched on a stiffened scrim BUT

next time must remember to take care with my stitching at the back!!!

My beach findings from yesterday mounted on hessian...

....a very delicate seaweed...

.....wool and feather...

....Limpet and sea weed....

....I have had a great time in Cornwall and have already booked for next year!!

My next blog will feature this weeks work from the group .

Printing, Playing and a Walk to the Beach....

13th March 2018

I made a printing block from Funky Foam.....

....printed on calico using acrylic paint as I don't have fabric paint with me...

....and stitched using a thicker perle thread using running, stem, back and blanket stitch to decorate.

Remember the tissue layers from earlier in the week....

....applied Acrylic Wax, cut into strips then wove them...

.....laid them side by side....

...cut into triangles....

...I intend stitching on the remainder of pieces, watch this space.

>>>>>>>

Sadly Clare left today and took all her wonderful birds, made from recycled beach finds, with her....

...sea kelp feet...

...limpet shell for the eye...

>>>>>>>

It was a glorious spring morning so Karen and I went for a walk down to the beach.

This is our barn studio with accommodation beneath....

....mother and baby doing well...

....a babbling brook...

....I can see the sea....

....the 'maternity' field...

....beautiful patterns in the sand...

....9am ...

....saw 2 seals this morning but they were too quick for me to catch in a photo!!!

Limpets and seaweed....

....another lovely day with beautiful scenery, good company and stitching, BLISS!!

Mothers Day, a Birthday and Creativity....

11th March 2018

Yesterday the afternoon was sunny after a very wet, misty morning so we went down to Mevagissey for supplies...

..the Harbour...

....so many villages look like this in Cornwall.

>>>>

Today we went out to Heligan to celebrate Mothers Day and Lesley's birthday...

....lunch was delicious then we went back to the barn to be creative!

I made this design for a cut away piece...

...traced it....

....put it at the back of layered organzas as a stitch guide....

....stitched using gold metallic thread....

....after cutting back with a soldering iron BUT I cut back too much on the triangles and resorted to cutting with small scissors!!!

Think I will make a stamp with this design.

>>>>>

Karen showed us how to layer papers, top layer of serviettes, any papers really. A piece of tissue is coated with a diluted PVA glue, then a layer of other tissue, and repeat until there are 4/5 layers. Leave to dry then coat with acrylic wax, leave to dry then this paper 'fabric' can be stitched.

Will show more tomorrow if the internet is ok!!
