29th August 2018

Very autumnal here in Richmond so have been playing with paints a friend gave me for my birthday....
...recording in my sketchbook as shown on Amanda Hislop's course....

....used this sheet of plastic as a palette...

....using some other acrylics for a colour sample....

....samples of my oil pastels...

....used up the paint....

...painted backgrounds for backing.

>>>>>>>>

Found some small embroideries when I was sorting so made some cards...

....think this looks like seaweed..

....hand made felt with machine stitching...

....used my embellisher around the edge to attach onto hessian for more note cards.

Went to Kew today and saw parakeets and pigeons feeding...

...walking up to the tree top walk...

....trees laden with conkers...

....the beautiful Pagoda...

....we wanted to go in the tree house but it was closed....

....beautiful bark on this tree...

.....close up of texture and colours...

....a fence for insects, rain drops on webs..

....Alba went on the wood trail, loved this pattern...

....and fungus...

....the beds were a riot of colour and immaculate!

Still sorting but think I may rust some fabric over the next couple of days.

A Mystery Birthday Treat....

16th August 2018

A lovely week of celebrations for my new home and birthday!

On Monday my daughter organised a mystery day for me....

.....we caught the boat from Richmond to Kingston, it was my granddaughter's first time on a boat....

...leaving Richmond...

....think this is the oldest bridge in Richmond....

.....lovely properties on the river side...

....a lot of water sports, these 2 were going really fast....

....going through the lock at Teddington...

....children having sailing instruction...

....we walked along the river at Kingston, this mosaic mural was on one of the buildings and Alba decided to give us a singing and dancing show...

....a tributary going into the Thames, beautiful flower displays on the bridges...

....loved this garden on the canal boat..

....after a very delicious Mezzo lunch beside the river we walked back through Kingston town centre to our bus home, some interesting buildings and a large variety of shops...

....I walked up the hill through the park to my new home...

....just 2 of the glorious flower beds....

...it was a great day and the sun shone as we ate our lunch, a bonus as rain had been forecast!!

>>>>>>>>

While I was unpacking and sorting I found a cushion cover that I had bought from the Hmong village in Vietnam so it is now on my chair in my craft room....

....the centre panel was hand embroidered.

>>>>>>

I also embroidered a fox to make a birthday card for someone special who adores the foxes that visit her garden every day...

...back stitched around the shape...

....stem stitch in various lengths for the fur....

...mounted on my own handmade paper ....

....I should have used a frame for this embroidery to keep the linen taught but most of my sewing/embroidery items haven't arrived yet!!!

Using More Ideas from the Course

13th August 2018

Slowly but surely I am settling in my new home and loving it!

Yesterday I had a little play in my craft room....

...I purchased this product from Art Van Go when they visited OSS...

....soaked it overnight...

....the wet Kozo...

....result after a little play!!

I just love the effect and think I might make some simple cards, it can also be painted and dyed and can be used for texturing work! The last few shapes remind me of trees and seaweed, great stuff!!

Now I must get showered and dressed for a mystery day out with my daughter and granddaughter.....
