Weaving and Stitching,

28th December 2018

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas, I certainly did!

I had a very relaxed Boxing Day, reading, sleeping, weaving and stitching....

.....used my tapestry frame to weave some of my favourite 'memory' shells for a small wall hanging.

From the top down, a beautifully marked piece of driftwood from Cornwall, the pink shell was from a  family holiday in Dorset, the oyster shell from a day trip to Whitstable with my daughter and granddaughter, the cone was from a fabulous beach in Vietnam and the mussel shell from Cornwall where I have spent time with creative friends. I used various threads and yarns for the weaving.

Next came stitching on my Indigo fabric...

....this pattern was made by securing Mung beans with thread before dyeing, I have used simple stitch and beads to embellish....

....lastly, the 9 patchwork square, the seams have been couched with hand dyed cotton yarn and simple stitch...

....planning to make this into a wall hanging.

I am hoping for another stitching day listening to my audio book, Heads You Win by Jeffrey Archer, really enjoying it!

Anni Albers Exhibition at Tate Modern

22nd December 2018

A photo from Monday morning as I was off to spend the day with my granddaughter....

....I have been weaving on some of my limpet shells this week as I want to make a picture...

....Friday my sister and I walked from Waterloo Station along the South  Bank, quite blowy...

....these are dining pods which can be hired overlooking the river, they were all occupied when we walked back, such a great idea!

The fabulous sky line ahead of us as we walked along...

....old and new buildings side by side...

We went into the Tate and I went to see this exhibition, it was so interesting I was inspired to do some weaving when I got home....

...she was an artist before her time using various threads and amazing designs in her work, well worth seeing for anybody interested in weaving and fabric.

This is one of many large wall hangings...

....this was a smaller framed piece using metallic thread to define the cross...

.....really interesting jewellery, using ribbon and plastic rings...

....a bead string and hair grips...

...pearl beads and loop hooks in 2 sizes on a leather string...

....metal washers and crossgrain ribbon, think I will have to give this a try!

....woven room dividers...

...close up....

....close up....

....a wonderful treat!!

Thawing ice blocks were outside the Tate...

...a jolly street entertainer playing Christmas songs...

....and lunch, the best fish and chips at Borough Market!!!

A great day out and about 14000 steps, home a quick cup of coffee then out to our community carol service which was BRILLIANT followed by wine and mince pies.

I wish you all a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS x
