A Trip to the RA and V&A....

25th July 2015

Arrived in Richmond on Wednesday, had a family meal in the evening, Thursday visited two BRILLIANT exhibitions after sauntering down Burlington Arcade.....

...fabulous paper hangings....

......

....this beautiful floor has replaced a London Scene carpet....

.....short walk to the RA...

.... huge metal structure in the courtyard outside....

......looking up...

.....the staircase leading up to the exhibition-coloured tape!!

Over 1000 exhibits, I only took photos of my 'favourites'....

....this was huge, waste metal cans stitched, this photo does not di it justice!!

Think this might look good in textiles....

....roughly 18' x 6'....

.....I liked the work with 'lines'....

.....metal, not for sitting on but loved the shape!

Liked this idea of overlapping circles, an organza piece maybe??

Lino cut, all the red dots represent a sale!

Metal shape painted gold with wire coat hanger hooks....

.....this was fascinating as it showed pages from an altered book....

......original page at the top, altered below with some words left visible....

.....another huge structure, quite menacing, black plastic over wire netting....

.....close up.

Tree bark...

....great texture....

.....I found this very moving....

.....a HUGE tapestry by Grayson Perry.....

.....this would look good in mixed media....

.....charcoal trees on pages from a dictionary...

.....very effective, birds painted on distressed boards.

Walked to the V&A, the walls outside were covered in these plastic sheets with flowers growing through, very effective....

.....so glad I saw this exhibition before it finishes in August.....

.... the items on display were FANTASTIC as were the exhibition settings and music....

....sadly, no photos allowed.

Yesterday had a little retail therapy, my sister found me some amazing bargains, then we met up with our daughters for a SPA afternoon, so relaxing.

Off to see my eldest son today and explore a farmers market.

Weather permitting we will be visiting Kew before I head back home, so watch this space!

More Simple Weaving.....

21st July 2015

Earlier in the week we went for a walk and I collected some grasses and decided to weave....

.....the one on the right is attached to some driftwood.

Great making art from nature!

>>>>>>>>>

Visited Stanley Park today, ducklings, swans and moorhens....

.....four little ducklings sitting on a log watched by ma and pa!!!

Think the blackberry crop will be good this year.

We heard quacking and then a tiny duckling came out of the water to mum, can you spot it just by the leaves in the centre....

.....the lake has been plagued by weed again this year....

.....it is being scooped up and dumped around the park!

An acrobatic squirrel made us laugh!

Beautiful colours in the formal gardens in the park...

....a very pretty ground cover plant with 'bottle brush' flowers.

I am off to London for a few days tomorrow catching up with family and visiting the V&A exhibition.....

.....watch this space....

Dyeing with Avocado!

19th July 2015

I forgot to mention yesterday that I attended a meeting with EG members and Harriet Riddell, a mixed media artist specialising in observational drawing in stitch.

http://institchyou.co.uk

She is working on a project with Dementia patients relating to their memories of food....

...after spending a couple of days chatting to patients in care homes she produced this amazing cloth...

.....stitch portraits and the words spoken....

.....my EG is helping with this project which will be displayed in the Winter Gardens in October.

Will keep you updated.

Today the wonderful wind has dried three loads of washing!

>>>>>>

I also finished my third mixed media picture and RD liked it.....

....my three pictures are now on the wall and I am just a little proud!

>>>>>>

Also had a go at dyeing with avocado skins and seeds....

.....boiled this charity shop find in the water for about an hour.....

.....the result is similar to tea dyeing.....

...a useful shade!
