An Experiment Using Water Soluble Fabric

30th April 2015

Today this came onto my FB page.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cda8GmvUYwE

.....after a busy morning involving Pilates, food shopping and library visit I wanted to try the method on the video.....

....placed some organza shapes, cut with my soldering iron, in between folded soluble fabric in a hoop...

....free machined using variegated thread....

.....it took about half an hour, then I rinsed in warm water and placed over a small up turned dish...

...I love these colours but unfortunately I didn't overlap the stitching enough, even though it looked as though I had before it was rinsed!!

Not sure how long it will take to dry or whether it will keep the bowl shape!!

I will show when I can, but I did enjoy the process, might even try using silk 'hankies' next time.

Watch this space!!

An Exciting Week...

29th April 2015

Monday evening I was at my first Embroiderer's Guild meeting, a speaker from the Quaker Tapestry Museum in Cumbria, which proved to be very interesting.

Tuesday saw 100 likes on  ID Designs , my FB site where I sell my cards, I was thrilled to bits as I have also sold a number of cards this week!

A lady on Streetlife is trying to set up a group of artists/makers to show work and share ideas, sounds exciting....

....been preparing cards which have proved popular.....

.....felted background, machine embroidered, french knots using variegated hand dyed silk threads....

...the flowers are small circles using a variety of my hand dyed fabrics fixed with beads....

....an original card that can be framed!

Pilates tomorrow.....

Beach and Stitch....

27th April 2015

A lovely sunny day but a cool breeze on the beach....

.....fabulous sky and clouds....

.....the lower blocks of sea defences have been cleaned, it looked so odd!!

Lots of debris on the beach from a rough sea....

...Jack investigating an amazing piece of driftwood, it was too big for me to carry home!!

Blossom....

...and bluebells in the garden.

Preparing some cards....

....mounted on Khadi paper....

Organza, Felt and Twin Needle.....

25th April 2015

Cold and rainy today.....

...... after food shopping I went up to my loft space for a play!

First I framed my seahorse.....

.....next drew a shell for my beach book....

....then while I was listening to an audio book I browsed my Stitch magazines for some inspiration....

.....decided to free machine petals using variegated thread and organza....

.....cut around the stitched petals using my soldering iron...

.....used my twin needle, green metallic/variegated thread, stitched wavy lines on acrylic felt....

.....zapped with the heat gun for texture....

.....added some beads to the centre of the flowers....

....made this card!!

I had forgotten how good it was to free machine on organza and use a twin needle.

Think I will take this further next week....

Stitching Cards

24th April 2015

Hello from a cloudy, cool Blackpool!

The forecast was correct and the weather has changed today but I have enjoyed the sunny weather this week by gardening in the park and at home and also walking Jack.

Speaking of Jack he had his summer haircut this week.

::::::

I have been making cards.....

.....using my hand dyed fabrics, machine/ hand embroidery while listening to an audio book....

.....I also had a little tidy/sort of my work space and found some paper I had painted a long time ago....

.....mounted it on Khadi paper and stitched using green variegated and gold metallic thread.

Quite like the result!

Also blocked my seahorse ready for framing.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

A Sunny Day...

20th April 2015

A lovely sunny day so this afternoon I took Jack to Fairhaven Lake and it was beautiful.....

....bursting buds against the blue sky....

.....ducks on daisies beside the lake.

:::::

I re-used a frame for my seascapes...

.....and I have been working on a secret project which I will share at a later date.

A Walk in the Park....

19th April 2015

A busy morning, washing, ironing and preparing dinner....

.....then took Jack for a walk in Stanley Park....

....loved the shape of this tree and blossom....

.....don't know what this is but the leaves are gorgeous...

.....again not sure of the name but so pretty...

......a Moorhen nest near the fallen tree in the lake....

....another, love these floating nests...

.....these are the first bluebells I have seen, made me smile...

....these are Heron's nests on a little island in the lake....

....can you see the Herons on their nests??

There was a serious photographer with a very long lens camera and he was thrilled to be here, said it was the best place in the country to observe and photograph Herons, he very kindly showed me some of the photos he had taken...AMAZING!!! Also said the Moorhens were very brave to build their nests so near the Heron colony as the Herons will feed on their chicks!!

::::::

Walking back to the car these fresh, green leaves looked so good against the ominous sky.

::::::

Made this collage when I arrived home using onion/indigo dyed fabrics/silks and machine embroidery....

.....I have got the proportions wrong, sand dunes should be larger and sea smaller, but enjoyed the task and am going to frame with two other seascapes.

Must make the dinner now.....

Blackpool Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition....

18th April 2015

This morning my friend picked me up and we went to the EG Exhibition. I was amazed to see the variety/quality of the work, really inspiring and the members were so friendly.....

....I asked permission to take photos.....

....I loved this as I have been using these colours recently....

.....textured yarns couched....

....recycled fabric....

...felt, fabric and stitch....

....these photos do not do the work justice, felted landscapes with stitching....

.....the top was felted/stitched, the lower fabric and stitch...

.....felt/stitch....

....I liked this use of circles and thread.....

.....felt/fabric/stitch, lots of texture...

....fabric/quilting/stitch...

....we have decided to join this guild.

:::::

I had a phone call from a friend I made on the Cornwall course, so lovely to talk to this lovely, bubbly lady, then spending time this morning with another lovely lady....

....A GOOD DAY!!
