A Day Out in London!

12th March 2015

Yesterday was my sister's birthday so we went into London, walked along the Southbank....

...such a beautiful day...

.....went in to see the Sheila Hicks Exhibition...

....loved the colours and textures...

.....these were just like large cushions....

...close up, threads, fleece etc loosely bound...

......all these weavings were framed but I had to take 'sideways' photos because of the lighting....

...love the razor shells in this...

...really liked this very open weave...

...close up of the circles, lovely effect....

...came away with some ideas to try!

::::::

....St Paul's....

The tide was out and we watched the sand sculptors....

....and musicians....

....arrived at Tate Modern....

...this huge structure was in the main hall, see how tiny the people look!

We went to see the exhibition of work by Marlene Dumas, my sister was really moved by her work but I found it disturbing!

::::

Walked to the War Museum...

...to see the exhibition Fashion on the Ration, really interesting but no photos allowed.

The 'make do and mend' slogan from war time is coming back again!

Knitting and Preparing for Indigo Dyeing

6th March 2015  (just realised I didn't publish my post from yesterday!)

Knitting another baby blanket in Debbie Bliss cotton.....

......I started a blanket with this yarn before the Yarn Bombing project and I couldn't remember the pattern, so had to undo and make another!!

Today I started to prepare some muslin for Indigo Dyeing on my course using mung beans and thread...

....I am looking forward to seeing all the results of my Shibori.

:::::

Today was the day Jack had to go for his injections, this is a very traumatic event for Jack, RD and myself!!! We had to make sure he ate the calming tablets wrapped in ham....

......after a couple of hours we managed to put on the muzzle to keep the vet and us safe!

I am pleased to report all went well and Jack is now sleeping peacefully and I am enjoying a glass of red to celebrate, trauma over for another year!!

Can't Settle to Anything Saturday!!!

7th March 2015

I was up early this morning, prepared a chilli for our meal tonight ( slow cooker ), baked a Madeira cake for RD.....

.....his second favourite cake, Victoria sponge being the most favourite with lots of jam and cream!

Had a shower, got dressed then went up to my loft space......
....used my decorated paper to ....

....cover a hard backed book.

Felt like stitching.....

....this fabric is cotton with the look and feel of linen....

....I traced the simple design to fit my aperture card on the back of the fabric and stitched with simple running stitches as a guide for stitching.....

......enjoyed this simple Kantha stitch using white silk thread....

.....think I might make another using white fabric from my charity shop finds and red thread.

Continued knitting my blanket while listening to an audio book....

.....think I can't settle on a specific task because I am just a little EXCITED  about my visit to London, catching up with family and then my Cornwall course!!!

Decorating Papers....

4th March 2015

Goodness this week is flying by!!!

Today I decided to decorate some papers to make book covers....

....I was looking through my course sketchbooks and found these pages....

.....decorated papers with wax resist....

.....took a large sheet of white paper and drew lines using oil pastels....

.....smeared with my finger in a circular motion....

.....printed with a metallic turquoise using the fan brush...

.....when dry colour washed with blue....

....the wash was thicker than I intended!!!

Think I might have to add some metallic silver tomorrow!

A session in the park this morning trimming the edges of the sensory beds and some weeding....

....love this twisted willow, spot the catkins...

.....Enid and Avril busy....

.....daffodils and crocuses are beginning to flower....

....SPRING is such an uplifting season.....
