A Brilliant Day!

13th June 2014

Happy Friday 13th!!

This date doesn't bother me as I was born on  Friday 13th.

Started the day on my new toy!

Remember this....

.....this is my 'waste thread' box...

...added some to the surface...

.....then a layer of cotton scrim...

....ready to embellish...

.....hmmm, the scrim was still obvious...

....the back....

.....so added more threads....

....tried some leaf shapes, but these just dropped off, a bit like the net!

So, added some silk noils I had in my stash...

....like this but feel the need to hand stitch.

Next Mr D suggested a trip to Skipton and as I hadn't been for years I jumped at the idea.

The journey took just over an hour and the scenery was lovely, '50 shades of green', lots of wild flowers on the verges, fields of shorn sheep/ lambs and rolling hills.
We even saw 2 horse drawn Romany caravans!

Parking was well signed and we found a space near the canal...

a swan and her cygnets....

...lovely plants and a craft shop ...

....the town was very festive and most shops had decorated bikes in their windows as Skipton is on  the Tour de France route...

....bunting everywhere...

....loved this bike covered in knitting and crochet....

.....even the Parish Church was decorated!

It was also market day and we bought lots of fruit, cheese, olives and artisan bread for an easy tea!

We then had a good walk...

....moss on the dry stone wall...

...loved these cottages and the copper beech...

...the castle, we didn't visit as Jack was with us...

...a walk beside the canal  and the river.

The castle walls...

...lovely small waterfall, love the sound of water....

...a canal boat giving visitors a ride and you can just see Jack and Mr D!

I must go back to Skipton at the end of September for the Yarndale Festival, can't wait!
