Sunday at Mevagissey....Indigo Dyeing

15th March 2015

In the studio at 8.30 raring to go!!

Yesterday a lovely lady in the group showed us how to make simple brown paper into 'leather look'....

......scrunch up brown paper repeatedly, open out and coat with paint, when dry coat with acrylic wax....

.....my effort

...think I will have to make a stock of these in a variety of colours, love the textured finish.

Coat with acrylic wax on both sides to make it strong enough to stitch.

The indigo vat was set up and in went some of my  tie dyed fabrics....

.....stitched white cotton velvet....

......threads pulled tight....

....LOVE the design....

We also made a pan of onion skin dye....

.....lace, silk and muslin, beautiful beach shades.....

......red cabbage sliced up and boiled...

......fabulous colour, I didn't rinse as I just loved the shades and didn't want them any paler.

We had another delicious lunch, freshly baked bread rolls, home made tomato/lentil soup, fruit and cheeses, mmmmm.
