A Walk in the Rainforest....

.......My room.....

....beautiful lily pond...

....the walk to our accommodation, notice the coolie hat lights along the pathway....

....ready for our 2 hour walk in the forest wearing 'leech socks'!!!

Entering, we had to keep close as there was no definite path....

.....rocks, foliage and roots make for slow, careful progress....

....Lagerstromia tree which is hollow and very strong, the bears climb this tree and make 'hammocks' in the top branches to rest and sleep....

....hollow centre....

.....a fallen tree covered in moss which will be devoured by termites...

....this 'monkey climber' is used to teach baby monkeys how to climb...

...the clear patch is where a wild boar has been digging....

....the volcanic bedrock is very near the surface causing tree roots to spread out along the ground.....

.....more twisty monkey climbers...

...this shows the side of the climber the baby monkeys use the hand holds...

...the ground has many volcanic boulders...

....a strangler winding around a tree which will eventually die...

....this lethal spiky plant is Rattan....

....a Red Wood, rare and very valuable to poachers....

....a seed pod from the Redwood, opened and eaten by squirrels....

....forest rangers are active 24/7, cutting back bamboo and generally keeping the trails clear and watching for poachers...

....our 'motley bunch' posing with the rangers, everybody wearing leech socks...

...3 of us inside the Lagerstroemia...

...and another...

....this plant has leaves that are waterproof/fire proof and are used for roofing....

...3 trees into one...

....one splitting into 4....

....volcanic rock covered in moss and ferns...

...think this is a Tung tree, amazing shape and unable to see the top....

...this gives an idea of the size...

....love the shape....

....this worm was on the path and being carried back to the ants nest...

....each ring on this tree denotes a years growth.

A visit to the Bear Rescue centre....

....a Moon Bear in a metal hammock...

...a woven hammock in this cage similar to the ones made by the bears high up in the trees...

....very long, sharp claws.....

....this is the sort of cage the bears are rescued from, no room to move causing distress and wasted muscles....

...the Sun Bear has more golden markings than the Moon Bear...

.... a leopard rescued from a drug dealer....

...female Gibbon has golden fur and makes a VERY loud howling sound...

....the male moving very fast through the branches in the compound, Gibbons never go on the ground....

....when she saw the cameras she posed with a finger on the lips, so funny....

....more acrobatics....

.....bears resting in the outside area....

...this explains why these bears are rescued from the torture of having bile removed to use in chinese medicines...

.....when the leaves of this plant are touched they fold up, quite magical to watch....

....it has such a pretty flower...

....huge grasses line the 'road'....

.....wild ginger, such a lovely shape and colour....

....a rather large spider, I took this with my zoom, didn't want to get too close!

Many bamboos...

....love these leaves in a bed at the lodge.

>>>>>>>

Night safari on the back of a lorry, quite like a roller coaster ride, with wet leaves slapping our faces if we didn't 'duck down' fast enough...

....think these were called Samba deer...

....nearly 10pm lights out, another brilliant day!
