Machining on Course Samples

9th August 2017

I spent a very pleasant afternoon yesterday machining on samples from the course, testing a variety of metallic and variegated threads. Angie Hughes recommended a size 16 needle and I have been able to use threads from my stash that were impossible to use before even using a metallic needle. The large eye also makes it easy to sew two top threads......

....painted Bondaweb strips on black velvet covered in black organza to prevent stitches' disappearing into the fabric...

...I wish I had taken photos to show the progress but got a bit carried away!!

I began by using the simple patterns on my machine using a variety of metallic threads then had lots of fun experimenting with free machining, quite pleased with the result.

Close up, even tried cable stitch...

...next came the printed leaf designs....

..straight stitch around the shape in metallic...

.....variegated thread in satin stitch  gives an autumnal effect...

....grey variegated...

...apologies for the last few photos!

If it is dry today I will try some different leaves on the thermo block....

....watch this space....
