Making Fabric.....

17th April 2015

I started the day in the park helping to spread manure on the sensory beds, I know how to have a good time!!!!

I then delivered some of my cards to a little shop in Lytham, had a mooch round the charity shops but didn't find any bargains today.
:::::::

The last couple of days I have been experimenting/playing with yarns/weaving and recycled sari silk.......

....I bought a bundle of sari silk a couple of years ago....

.....I ironed the strips, just love these vibrant colours,  onto cotton backed with Bondaweb....

.....then used gold metallic thread in programmed stitches to secure....

.....more stitching with variegated threads to decorate.....

....apologies for this photo, it doesn't do the fabric justice!

Think I will make a book/journal with this and colour wash the pages with these colours.

::::::::

I have lots of different yarns and thought I would make a bright, textured weaving....

.....I made this on a simple cardboard 'loom'.....

...I have no idea what I am going to do with this, perhaps use the embellisher.....

.....just find weaving very relaxing!

Julie Broad,

 https://creatingtextiles.wordpress.com

...is a blogging on-line friend who has amazing ideas which she shares on her blog....

.....a couple of weeks ago she had an excellent idea, I have copied it....

...these are fabulous inktense paint/dyes which stack...

...I copied Julie's idea and cut triangles of sticky labels to show the colours in the palette....

....such a simple task and so useful when using these paints....

....thank you Julie!!

I am off to the Blackpool Embroiderer's Guild Exhibition tomorrow at the Central Library, hope I can take photos to share with you.....

Weaving....

15th April 2015

Last few days our weather hasn't been very good so I have been up in my lovely loft space, very untidy at the moment, browsing my craft books and Pinterest for inspiration.....

.....I selected a variety of yarns and used my child's loom to create this weaving......

.....I wanted to incorporate some of my beach finds....

.....three shells, a striped flat pebble and some driftwood....

.....I don't really know why I enjoy simple weaving but I do find it very relaxing....

.....saw this idea on Pinterest.....

....next time will choose a pebble that is more square!!

I was in weaving mode so selected yarns from my stash....

.....I traced a circle on the back with water soluble pen and stitched around it then started....

.....four different threads used, think I might Kantha stitch around.....

.....been making this for the park today....

.....more photos when it is in situ!!!!

Pilates tomorrow.....

Experimenting....

12th April 2015

The sun is now shining after a day of high winds and rain!!

I have been browsing my craft books and watching a craft DVD which has inspired me to experiment....

.......a variety of threads cut up onto felt....

...covered in organza....

.....stitched in vermicelli free machining using silver metallic thread...

......after heating with a heat gun.....

.....an interesting surface, but would use more colours next time.

:::::::

Selection of organza in shades of blue/green and a piece of blue felt...

....after using the embellisher....

...an interesting surface, could be used for landscape work.

:::::::

Red felt and red/purple organzas....

...this time I only embellished the centre of the organza....

....lovely texture, think I would cut circles next time and decorate with beads!

:::::

A variety of threads cut onto felt....

.....covered in cling film....

....embellished....

.....I prefer using net to cling film, again I like the texture.

::::::

This time a sandwich of silk tops and soluble fabric....

.....free machined in silver metallic thread...

.....after rinsing in warm water....

....rather like this effect.

::::::

I sprayed some Bondaweb backed fabric with water and sprinkled Brusho .....

.....sadly, the result when dry!

Think I will use less water next time!

:::::::

I used some of my hand dyed stash to play....

...some stitching...

.... the finished card.

::::::

Made some bunting for our park Fun Day.

::::::

Cut up some 'inches' from my stash.

:::::

Made a couple of cards....

....an interesting  weekend experimenting!!

Might do some weaving tomorrow....

A Walk Beside the River....

10th April 2015

Another lovely day so we went to Garstang, bought some plants for the garden then walked beside the river......
.....the bees were all over this bush until I aimed my camera....

....Jack decided to go for a paddle....

.....then rolled in the mud....

....buds opening....

....so many shades of green and yellow...

...was tempted to pick these....

.....lovely sound....

....this dog made me laugh out loud, his owner was trying to catch him and he was racing around with this enormous branch, just had to take a photo as he raced towards me...

....the car park entrance....

......metal flowers among the daffodils and primula....

.....this also made me smile, a man, sitting in the sun, happily knitting!!

:::::

Finished this card today, overlapping hearts in white and cream.....

.....thought it might make a good wedding/engagement/anniversary card.

 What do you think?
