A Busy Few Days--- forgot to publish this!!!

6th June 2015

I was away from Wednesday to Friday with my friend Joanne in the lakes near Troutbeck....

....view from the caravan...

...we were creative making books and bunting...

.....this is called a flag book, I decided to make a slight amendment but this has prevented the inside from folding correctly!! We learn by our mistakes, also the cover needs to be slightly larger and I matched the cord to the inside cover!!! Probably because we were both very busy talking!!

This is the envelope book, next time I would make the tying threads longer and add beads....

....I think this a great book design!

On Thursday we went to Carlisle, visited the Cathedral and Tullie Museum....

....loved all the detail on the roof...

.....amazing windows....

....the altar was  beautifully carved....

....these were paintings of the wooden painted panels.....

....the ceiling was magnificent....

...the organ which was being tuned during our visit....

.....another altar with gold detail....

....it was difficult to take photos as there were spotlights in the church and sunshine streaming through the windows.

>>>>>

The wall on this house was a mixture of large stones and bricks, such character!

Outside the Cathedral....

....these two arches are from the Chapter House, I couldn't get a photo without the white car and bin!!

Saw this while walking back to the  car park, an old tree stump looking like bone!

Today I received my 'round robin' postcard, isn't it great?

When we were at Oxford Summer School last year the group and Anne Griffiths (brilliant tutor) decided to make the background for a postcard, beach theme, and then it would be added to and sent on until all the group had added something. It was fun to do and all the cards were different, a lovely reminder of a brilliant week!

Been very busy baking for our Fun Day at the park tomorrow, just hope the weather is kind to us as it has been very windy and quite cool today!

An Interesting and Informative Meeting, Books, Bags......

9th June 2015

Last night we had speakers at Embroiderers Guild from 'Bags of Difference'.....

....Chris and Ed gave us a talk/photos on their work in Uganda, helping the people improve their lives by making bags, aprons, oven gloves etc....

.....the talk was so very interesting about the hospital, village and life in Kisiizi....

www.kisiizipartners.org.uk

.....Chris and Ed give their time to talk to groups and sell goods made by the villagers so they can provide a better life for their families....

...I bought this handy folded shopper....

.....very well made in a lovely cotton and the pouch is attached....

.....all the goods were labelled with the price and name of the maker and all money paid was sent back to the person in Uganda by Chris and Ed enabling the villagers to support their families....
.... a brilliant idea!

If anybody is interested in Chris and Ed talking to their group....

Finished one of my books today....

....when I went away last week I forgot to take the instructions for stitching this design, so made it up and enjoyed some weaving on the spine, certainly an original, unique item!!!

Front, padded, hand dyed fabrics....

.....I colour washed, sprinkled, sponged the pages....

....quite pleased with the result!

Also covered a plain paper book with my own marbled paper....

....just need to apply acrylic wax to protect!

Postcard...

8th June 2015

Good news from the park Fun Day, we made £1300 to spend on park projects!!

Also lots of messages from the visitors saying how much they had enjoyed the day.

I am going to  Embroiderers Guild tonight and have finished a postcard, theme Blackpool Tower, to use as bunting in a project.....

....this is my contribution....

....I used some fabric I made ages ago from waste threads and soluble fabric....

....cut a very simple tower shape from felt and decorated with beads.

It represents 'The Illuminations'!

Fun day at the Park

7th June 2015

We had a BRILLIANT Fun Day at the park.....

...so busy I forgot to take photos of the crowds that came to support us!

These photos were taken early this morning as we were stringing bunting around the park and the sensory beds were looking amazing.....

....Honesty plant looks so beautiful....

.....poppies are so beautiful....

....Caroline, in 1915 costume, and daughter on the card stall.

I was on the cake stall, we sold out in an hour, totally amazing, then I couldn't find my camera to take more photos....

.....many more people than last year and a superb atmosphere, great to be part of this team!

Rusting Fabric Part 3

2nd June 2015

Still very windy and damp here in Blackpool!

As you can probably tell I am just a bit 'hooked' on experimenting with rusting fabric......
....from yesterday...

...the result!

Today I thought I would try rusting with a feather resist and white vinegar on muslin....

....the fabric was sprayed, wire wool was placed over the feathers and that was sprayed....

.....then rolled and covered in cling film....

.....a very delicate feather shape, quite pleased!

I won't be posting for a few days as I am going up to the Lake District for a creative few days....

....just a little excited!!

Rusting Fabric Part 2...

!st June 2015

Happy June!!

It is cold, wet with gale force winds in Blackpool, hope we have summer soon!

Remember yesterday I started with this old cloth....

....after spraying with vinegar and rolling in iron wool and cling film....

I really love the colour of this and have something in mind.....

....I then used a linen napkin from my stash....

...tried this after spraying with vinegar....

....it is now rolled tightly in cling film....

...result tomorrow!
